After a long suspense, the dates and the location of Cycling for libraries 2012 were announced. After a very successful event in the previous year in 2011 from Copenhagen to Berlin, many people had been anxiously waiting for the schedule for the next ride.
So it was a great pleasure for Cycling for Libraries to be able to organise the ride on 28th of July in Vilnius, arriving by bicycle in Tallinn on 7th of August!
The three Baltic States of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have a very vibrant and fascinating libraryworld and there was a lot to see, hear and discuss. The Baltic States are also known as some of the best bicycling destinations in Europe, so they were the perfect setting for our forward-looking, innovative and informal unconference for all library professionals and library lovers. On the journey from Vilnius to Tallinna via Riga and Tartu, the bicycle route took in about 600km and this long event (longest professional library event in the world, by the way), was filled with relevant and challenging content like workshops, discussions, excursions and encounters with colleagues.
Registration was limited to 100 people, and was fantastic.
If you would like to partake in future rides you can check for updates and sign up early You can ride the entire tour or parts of it, on either a regular road bike, a hybrid style bike, or an e-bike if it can handle the distances. All who support libraries are welcome to make enquiries.
