Bikesy's Verdict
The 2027 Kathmandu Hybrid EXC 800 suits you if the commute and the luggage-carrying day out are the same bike, and you want the carrier, lights and mudguards already fitted. A Bosch CX motor, specified at a maximum 120 Nm, and a PowerTube 800 give you strong assistance and a large battery you can charge indoors. ABS on 203 mm discs and a 100 mm Fox fork are shared by the Classic, Trapeze and Easy Entry frames, which differ in access, sizes and geometry at a £3,699 official UK RRP. Against the 2027 Pro Easy Entry, this is the bike with the Fox fork and ABS brakes. Weight can overturn that: published examples are 28.5 kg, 28.9 kg and 30.7 kg, with the Easy Entry the heavy one to lift.
Pros
- Carrier, lights, mudguards, kickstand and a keyed-alike lock are fitted for commuting and luggage.
- Bosch CX motor with a maximum 120 Nm, and a PowerTube 800 you can charge on or off the bike.
- Bosch eBike ABS with 203 mm rotors front and rear.
- Fox 34 Float AWL fork with 100 mm of travel and an SR Suntour NVX suspension seatpost.
- Classic, Trapeze and Easy Entry share that riding kit, each with a £3,699 official UK RRP.
Cons
- Published example weights are 28.5 kg, 28.9 kg and 30.7 kg, and the Easy Entry is the heavy one to lift and store.
- A 27 kg carrier load still has to fit within the 125 kg rider limit and 160 kg total system limit.
If you want one bike for the ride to work and a longer day with luggage, the Kathmandu Hybrid EXC is made for that mix. The 2027 EXC 800 sits above the Pro 800 in Cube's aluminium range, with the commuting and trekking equipment treated as part of the bike.
Ready for work, and for a ride with luggage
Cube classes the EXC 800 as a category 2 bike for equipped, electrically assisted commuting and leisure trekking, including rides with luggage. Classic, Trapeze and Easy Entry all come with the ACID Integrated Carrier 3.0 CSR, front and rear powered lights, mudguards, a kickstand, a bell and a keyed-alike frame lock. For the commute, the lights and mudguards are already sorted. For a ride with bags, the carrier and its spring clamp are part of the bike, and a compatible Cube RiLink-ready adapter can take a suitable clip-on bag or basket if you want one later.
The 2027 rear carrier is rated to 27 kg. That allowance sits with a 125 kg maximum rider weight and a 160 kg total system weight, bike included, so a heavy rider and a full rack can meet the system limit first. Towing is covered as well: a trailer up to 60 kg including its load, a vertical load of up to 8 kg deducted from the carrier allowance, and a trailer tongue load of 2 to 8 kg. You attach it with the trailer maker's axle or quick-release coupling. Cube's conditions exclude a clamp on the frame tube, seatpost or carrier.
A child seat is an approved addition. Cube lists all three 2027 frames as factory-approved for its kids' bike seats when they are used with the specified ACID Carrier IC 3.0 RILink CSR, and that approval covers the stated seat-and-carrier combination.
Assistance for a loaded bike
All three frames use the Bosch Performance Line CX, with a maximum of 120 Nm of assistance. That maximum is what you can call on for a loaded start or a climb on a leisure ride. The Kiox 500 display and Bosch LED Remote are how you select the assist and follow it as you go. The battery is the Bosch PowerTube 800, an 800 Wh pack in the frame. Those watt-hours are the energy on board, and the distance you get from them changes with assist level, load, hills and how much you pedal.
You can charge the battery on the bike, or take it off and charge it wherever there is a socket. Gearing is 12-speed, with a 40T chainring, a Deore shifter, a Deore 10-51T cassette and an XT rear derailleur. On the road that spread means a low gear when the carrier is full and the road rises, and a taller gear once things level out.
ABS brakes and suspension where you meet the road
The brakes are the same on every 2027 frame: Shimano BR-MT420 hydraulic discs, 203 mm rotors front and rear, and Bosch eBike ABS. ABS is intended to reduce wheel lock and improve stability while you brake. On a bike you may load to 27 kg on the carrier, that is the practical case for having it fitted.
The fork is a Fox 34 Float AWL with 100 mm of travel and a two-position Sweep-Adjust RAIL damper. An SR Suntour NVX 31.6 mm suspension seatpost sits under the saddle, and the stem is adjustable so you can set the bar position to suit you. Tyres are Schwalbe Marathon Efficiency 55-622, a substantial trekking size for the commute and for longer lanes.
Classic, Trapeze or Easy Entry
The motor, battery, gears, brakes and fork are shared, so you're choosing how you get on and which sizes Cube publishes. Classic is the high-top-tube frame, in 50, 54, 58, 62 and 64 cm. Trapeze lowers the top tube and comes in 46, 50, 54 and 58 cm. Easy Entry is the step-through, in 46, 50, 54, 58 and 62 cm. Easy Entry gives you the low step-over. Trapeze sits between that and the Classic, and its sizes stop at 58 cm. Classic is the traditional layout, and the only frame with a 64 cm option.
Each style has its own geometry, so the same size number can still mean a different position on the bike. At 50 cm, Classic and Trapeze share a 401 mm reach and a 638 mm stack. Easy Entry in that size is 388 mm of reach and 680 mm of stack, a shorter and higher cockpit. Choose the access you want first, then the size within that frame. The published geometry for that style is the one that describes the fit.
These are substantial bikes to lift and store. Cube's product-page examples are 28.9 kg for the Classic, 28.5 kg for the Trapeze and 30.7 kg for the Easy Entry. Those are the published examples, and the Easy Entry is the one to think about if the bike has to go up steps or into a tight store.
The Pro 800, and a 2026 EXC
Kathmandu Hybrid Deluxe EXC, Comfort and C:62 models are separate bikes. This one is the aluminium EXC 800, and those other names are different builds.
On the 2027 Easy Entry bikes, the Kathmandu Hybrid Pro 800 and this EXC share the Bosch CX, the PowerTube 800, the Kiox 500 and an XT 12-speed rear derailleur. The EXC Easy Entry is the bike with the Fox 34 Float AWL fork and ABS brakes on 203 mm rotors. The Pro Easy Entry uses a RockShox Recon Silver RL Air fork and Shimano BR-MT420 brakes with 180 mm rotors, and those Pro brakes are non-ABS. Official UK RRPs are £3,699 for each 2027 EXC frame and £3,299 for the Pro, so the list-price gap is £400. Shop prices can differ from those official figures.
The 2026 EXC 800 is the previous model year. The documented 2026 Easy Entry specification describes a dropper seatpost, and the 2027 Easy Entry fits the SR Suntour NVX suspension seatpost. Cube's load tables rate the 2026 EXC carrier at 25 kg and the 2027 carrier at 27 kg. Those seatpost and carrier figures stay with the year they belong to.
With the frame that suits how you get on, the week is what this bike is set up for. Lock it, use the lights that are already there, and put a bag on the carrier for work. When you have a longer window, it's the same bike, and the PowerTube can come indoors to charge if that is where the socket is.

Alternatives to Consider
The Cube Kathmandu Hybrid Pro 800 is the direct alternative in Cube's aluminium Kathmandu range. Comparing the 2027 Easy Entry builds, both have the Bosch CX motor, a PowerTube 800, a Kiox 500 display and an XT 12-speed rear derailleur. Where they split is the fork and the brakes: the EXC Easy Entry has a Fox 34 Float AWL and ABS-equipped Shimano BR-MT420 brakes with 203 mm rotors, while the Pro Easy Entry has a RockShox Recon Silver RL Air fork and non-ABS BR-MT420 brakes with 180 mm rotors.
