Cube Kathmandu Hybrid C:62 SLX
The Cube Kathmandu Hybrid C:62 SLX is a carbon, rigid-fork Bosch e-trekking bike with carrier, lights and mudguards fitted, for riders who want a lighter assisted commute and mixed-surface tour than a large-battery Kathmandu.
- C:62 carbon frame and rigid fork: An equipped trekking e-bike that stays in a lighter class than a big-battery Kathmandu.
- 16.8 kg medium Classic: CUBE's official figure for a medium Classic with accessories fitted, a useful marker against heavier trekking e-bikes.
- Bosch Performance SX motor: Assistance rated to a maximum of 60 Nm for hills, loaded starts and everyday climbs.
- 400 Wh CompactTube battery: The smaller battery behind this carbon Kathmandu's lighter setup.
- Carrier, lights, mudguards and stand: Fitted from the start, so wet commutes and bag-carrying trips need no extra kit list.
- Schwalbe G-One Overland tyres: 50-622 mixed-surface tyres for road miles and easier tracks, already on the bike.

Bikesy's Verdict
The Kathmandu Hybrid C:62 SLX suits you if you want a carbon e-bike already dressed for commuting, leisure rides and equipped mixed-surface touring, and you can live with a fixed 400 Wh battery. Both frames share Bosch SX assistance, a maximum 60 Nm, wide-range XT gearing, XT hydraulic brakes, and a fitted carrier, lights and mudguards. The reason to own it is the lighter package: the official weight table lists 16.8 kg for a medium Classic with accessories fitted, set against a heavier large-battery Kathmandu at the same £3,999 official UK suggested retail price. Choose Classic or Easy Entry for access and the sizes on offer, using that frame's own geometry. The case weakens if you need a trailer, if the separate 110 kg rider, 25 kg carrier and 135 kg system limits are too tight, or if the bike cannot reach a socket.
Pros
- Carbon frame and rigid carbon fork with carrier, lights, mudguards and a stand already fitted
- Lighter 400 Wh carbon alternative to the much heavier 800 Wh Kathmandu Hybrid SLX
- Wide-range 1×12 gearing with an XT derailleur, plus XT hydraulic brakes, on both frames
- Classic or Easy Entry access, with the same motor, battery, luggage kit and £3,999 suggested retail price
- 50-622 mixed-surface tyres for commuting and equipped touring
Cons
- The 400 Wh battery is fixed in the downtube, so charging means bringing the bike to a socket
- Rigid fork and a 50 mm maximum tyre width leave little scope for adding cushioning
- No trailer allowance, with separate 110 kg rider, 25 kg carrier and 135 kg system limits
If you want an e-bike for the commute, a leisure loop and a mixed-surface tour with bags aboard, and you want that bike to stay manageable, the Kathmandu Hybrid C:62 SLX is the one that makes sense in Cube's current UK Kathmandu line. It sits between the C:62 Pro and the C:62 SLT. On a specification list it's the Kathmandu Hybrid C:62 SLX 400X, in Classic or Easy Entry. Assistance and the fitted kit are shared. You're choosing how you get on, and how the bike fits.
Leaving the house already equipped
The SLX is appealing because the useful kit is already fitted. Both frames come with the ACID Integrated Carrier 3.0 and RILink HPP, front and rear lights, integrated mudguards and a kickstand, so a wet ride to work, or a weekend with bags on the carrier, can start from the bike as it arrives. The tyres are Schwalbe G-One Overland PerfL in 50-622, fitted with Aerothan inner tubes, a mixed-surface tread for road miles and easier tracks.
Weight is the other half of the appeal, and the published figures need reading in their own terms. CUBE's official weight table lists 16.8 kg for a medium Classic with the accessories fitted, as a manufacturer claim for that size. The Easy Entry product page also states 16.8 kg. The weight table itself describes the Classic, so that second figure is a poor stand-in for every Easy Entry size.
The comparison that explains the bike is with the Kathmandu Hybrid SLX 800. It has the same £3,999 official UK suggested retail price, an 800 Wh designation and a 28.1 kg figure in CUBE's 2027 medium-bike table. This C:62 stays at 400 Wh, with that lighter medium Classic figure. You're choosing a lighter carbon bike over a much heavier large-battery one. The C:62 Pro is a separate lightweight 400 Wh build in the same carbon range, and the C:62 SLT is a distinct model again.
Assistance you charge with the bike
Both frames use a Bosch Performance SX motor, rated to a maximum of 60 Nm, and a Bosch CompactTube 400 of 400 Wh fixed in the downtube. That 60 Nm figure is the maximum rating, there for hills and loaded starts. You run the system from the Bosch LED Controller and Kiox 500 display, and the supplied charger is a 4 A unit. The battery stays in the bike while it charges.
Settle where it will charge before you get attached to the weight. The bike needs to reach a socket, because the main battery is built into the downtube. A hallway, a garage or a shed with power makes this an easy bike to live with. A Bosch PowerMore 250 is supported if you later want more capacity. It's an extra, and the CompactTube stays in the frame, so you add capacity and you still charge the main battery on the bike. For commuting, leisure rides and touring you can plan around that fixed 400 Wh, the SX setup fits. A routine that depends on lifting the battery out and carrying it to a socket is where it becomes awkward.
Gears, brakes and a rigid fork
Classic and Easy Entry both run a 1×12 transmission, with an XT rear derailleur, a 38-tooth chainring and a 10-51T cassette. One chainring keeps the drivetrain simple, and the cassette still gives you a low gear when the carrier is loaded and a higher gear on the flat. Brakes are Shimano XT hydraulics with a 180 mm rotor at each end, a matched setup for commuting and touring with luggage aboard.
The fork is rigid C:62 carbon. That choice holds weight down and keeps the steering direct. Cushioning comes from the tyres. The G-One Overlands are already at 50 mm, and official ergonomics tables set 50 mm as the maximum width, so the fitted tyre is the widest CUBE approves. Riding that calls for a suspension fork belongs on a different bike.
Classic or Easy Entry
Each frame has an official UK suggested retail price of £3,999, and the motor, battery, gears, brakes and luggage equipment match. Classic is the conventional frame, in 50, 54, 58 and 62 cm, with a fixed 75 mm CUBE Performance Stem SLX. Easy Entry is the lower-access frame, in 46, 50, 54 and 58 cm, with an adjustable CUBE Comfort Stem Pro. The published stem length on Easy Entry changes with the size.
Each frame has its own geometry, so a 50 cm Classic and a 50 cm Easy Entry put you in a different position. Choose how you want to mount, then use that frame's size row. A 46 cm bike is Easy Entry only. A 62 cm bike is Classic only. If easier access is why you're here, Easy Entry also publishes a step-through width for every size, alongside the lower frame.
Loads and towing
CUBE gives the 2027 SLX three separate limits. Rider weight, including worn equipment, is capped at 110 kg. The carrier is capped at 25 kg. Total system weight, bike included, is capped at 135 kg. Keep them apart when you do the sums. A full carrier leaves the rider allowance untouched, and a rider inside 110 kg still has to stay inside the carrier and system caps.
Trailer towing sits outside the published allowance. The 2027 load table lists none for this model, and CUBE's FAQ excludes full-carbon frames and carbon forks from towing. This SLX has both. A tour that depends on a trailer needs another bike. Bags on the carrier, inside 25 kg, are what this one is set up to carry.
Earlier bikes with this name
The current Classic and Easy Entry use an XT derailleur and XT hydraulic brakes. The SLX 400X name has also covered two earlier specifications. In 2025 the original bike used Shimano Deore 12-speed gears and Deore hydraulic brakes. In 2026 the gears were XT and the hydraulic brakes were Deore. The current bike is the one with the XT derailleur and the XT brakes together. The derailleur, the brakes and the year, read together, separate those three specifications.
A 2025 SLX Classic or Easy Entry also needs its official crank-bolt inspection completed before you ride. CUBE says continued use of an affected, unchecked bike risks a crank arm coming loose.
In this current form, it's a bike you can keep ready by the door and still take on a longer day. The wet-weather kit is already fitted, the carrier is there when the bags come out, and when it's time to charge you are moving a lighter carbon bike to the socket, which is the whole point of choosing this Kathmandu.
Key Features & Benefits
- Wide-range 1×12 with an XT derailleur: A 38-tooth chainring and 10-51T cassette give you a climbing gear when the bike is loaded and a higher gear on the flat.
- XT hydraulic discs, 180 mm rotors: Matched front and rear brakes for commuting and touring with luggage on the carrier.
- PowerMore 250 compatibility: A supported way to add capacity later, while the 400 Wh battery stays fixed in the frame.

Alternatives to Consider
Cube Kathmandu Hybrid C:62 Pro. This sits in the same current UK lightweight C:62 range and uses the same Bosch SX and 400 Wh concept. CUBE's 2027 table lists 18.4 kg for the Pro and 16.8 kg for the SLX in the specified medium Classic comparison, so the SLX is the lighter of those two table figures.
Cube Kathmandu Hybrid SLX. The current UK Kathmandu Hybrid SLX 800 is the larger-battery alternative, with an 800 Wh designation and a 28.1 kg figure in the 2027 medium-bike table, against this C:62 SLX's 400 Wh and 16.8 kg qualified figure. One is the lighter carbon bike. The other is the large-battery bike.
Reviews
Adrian Kaether, writing in BIKE, rode an earlier Kathmandu Hybrid C:62 SLX 400X fitted with an XT derailleur and Deore brakes. He found the light bike's conventional luggage carrier and everyday equipment an unusual, useful combination for sporty commuting and fitness riding. That observation is about the shared lightweight, equipped idea on the bike he tested. The current XT brakes were outside that test.
He also treats the permanently installed battery as an ownership drawback. The current frame specifies a fixed integrated battery as well, and the review does not describe any modified test equipment behind that finding.
