Bikesy's Verdict
The current Editor Hybrid SLT FE suits you if a paved city ride is the point: Bosch assistance, an automatic hub and a belt, with lights, mudguards, a carrier and a kickstand already fitted. Classic and Trapeze share that kit and a £2,999 suggested retail price. Choose the step-over when you need the 62 cm size, or the Trapeze when lower access matters and 58 cm is enough. Assistance is a Performance Line SX motor, maximum 60 Nm, fed by a fixed 400 Wh battery, with the Enviolo Automatiq hub changing gear for you. Charge the whole bike beside a socket, and keep the 100 kg rider, 25 kg carrier and 135 kg system limits together. Own it for uneventful urban miles. The rigid fork is the limit if your route is mostly rough paths.
Pros
- Automatic Enviolo hub gearing and a Gates belt on both current FE frames
- Lights, mudguards, rear carrier and kickstand fitted for commuting
- Bosch Performance Line SX motor, maximum 60 Nm, and a 400 Wh battery
- Classic and Trapeze share the kit and a £2,999 UK suggested retail price
Cons
- The 400 Wh battery is fixed in the down tube, with no access hatch, so the whole bike needs a charging spot
- The 100 kg rider limit, 25 kg carrier limit and 135 kg system limit have to be kept together
- A rigid fork suits paved city miles and is a weak match if your route is mostly rough path
The Editor Hybrid SLT is for the rider whose week happens in town: the commute, the errands, the ride home when a hill would otherwise take the shine off it. It's the SLT bike in Cube's Editor Hybrid urban family, a clean-lined e-bike built around Bosch assistance, hub gearing and a belt. The current UK model is the 400X FE, in a Classic step-over or a lower-access Trapeze, and both are meant to be ridden as complete city bikes.
Why it suits a daily city ride
The motor on the current frames is Bosch's Performance Line SX, with a maximum of 60 Nm. That's the help for pulling away from the lights, and for a climb on the way home. You run it from the System Controller and Mini Remote.
Gearing is an automatic Enviolo Urban Automatiq hub, so the bike changes gear as your speed rises and falls. In stop-start traffic, that's one less thing to manage. Drive is a Gates CDC belt, 125T, with a 52-tooth crankset and a 24-tooth rear sprocket. There's no routine chain to oil. Cube still supplies belt assembly and maintenance instructions, so treat the belt as lower-maintenance, and keep those instructions for the day it needs work.
Front and rear lights, mudguards, a rear carrier and a kickstand are fitted. On a bike you take to work, wet roads, being seen, and a bag on the back are already part of the build.
The brakes are hydraulic discs, described by Cube as Shimano Deore, and the tyres are 50 mm Schwalbe Marathon Efficiency. The frame is aluminium Superlite, with Efficient Comfort Geometry and internal cable routing, and the fork is a rigid CUBE Editor full-carbon fork. That rigid fork suits a paved city ride. A commute that spends a long time on rough path is a poorer fit, because this fork is built without suspension travel.
Classic, Trapeze and the size that fits
Classic and Trapeze share the motor, battery, automatic hub, belt and commuting kit. Each has a £2,999 UK suggested retail price, so the list price leaves the decision to frame access and size.
Classic is the step-over, in 50, 54, 58 and 62 cm. Trapeze is the lower-access frame, in 50, 54 and 58 cm. Trapeze is the better match when you want an easier way on, and 58 cm is enough bike. Classic is the better match when you want that step-over shape, and it's the frame that offers 62 cm. The Classic height guide starts the 62 cm size at 183 cm.
Use that height guide as a generation-matched retailer guide for the Classic frame alone. It gives rider height as a starting point, and it isn't a fit guarantee. Trapeze heights sit outside it. For Trapeze, and for setting the frames side by side, the geometry tells you more: in the shared sizes, reach, stack and wheelbase match, and the Trapeze protrusion figures sit lower, in line with the easier access. The 62 cm Classic comes with a 90 mm stem.
Charging, luggage and the limits
Both frames use a Bosch CompactTube 400, a 400 Wh battery fixed inside the down tube. There's no access hatch, so you charge the whole bike on the supplied Bosch 4A charger. A spot at home or work where the bike can stand by a socket makes that simple. The 400 Wh is capacity for everyday assisted riding. Read it as energy on board, not a promised range. Assist level, hills and load all change what you get from it. If you want more capacity, Cube describes a compatible Bosch PowerMore 250 Wh range extender. It's an optional upgrade that adds capacity, and Cube doesn't attach a ride-distance claim to it.
Three load limits apply together. Maximum rider weight is 100 kg, including worn equipment. The fitted rear carrier is limited to 25 kg. Maximum total system weight is 135 kg, bike included. Being inside the rider figure and inside the carrier figure still leaves the system limit to satisfy.
A front carrier is an optional extra. Cube describes one, and it approves compatible fork-mounted carrying equipment for Editor models from model year 2025. Keep the load inside the accessory's own limit and the bike's 135 kg system limit.
Leave a child seat and a child trailer off the plan. The Editor Hybrid is absent from Cube's child-seat approval list. Cube's trailer guidance also rules out bikes with a carbon fork or an adjustable belt-drive dropout, which covers these SLT FE frames.
If you're comparing an older SLT
For automatic gears and the commuting kit already fitted, you want the 2027 FE, Classic or Trapeze, with the Enviolo Urban Automatiq hub.
The 2026 UK range included non-FE and FE builds. The documented FE bike from that generation uses a manually shifted Shimano Alfine 11-speed hub, so the gear changes are yours to make. A non-FE 400X is a separate accessory specification. Match the hub and the fitted kit, and you'll know whether an older or ex-display offer is this bike.
Model-year 2025 needs a safety step as well. Cube's affected-model list identifies the 2025 SLT 400X and the 2025 SLT 400X FE separately. On either bike, Cube's required crank-bolt dealer inspection has to be completed before you ride.
A year marking or a suggested price will not identify the motor, the hub or the accessories, and it will not show which bike is cheaper once current offers are up. The hub and the FE equipment are the match that matters.
Step onto the frame that lets you get going easily, and the current SLT FE is a straightforward bike to live with through an ordinary week. The motor helps when the road rises, the hub looks after the gears, and the carrier is ready for the bag you meant to bring.
Key Features & Benefits
- Optional Bosch PowerMore 250 Wh: Compatible extra capacity for both current frames if 400 Wh is the limit of your week. It's an upgrade, and it stays a capacity figure, not a promised distance.
Geometry
Published geometry for the 2027 FE Classic and Trapeze frames. The protrusion figure is Cube's protrusion height minus 80 mm, and it is not a standover measurement.

Reviews
Cycling Electric's Mark Sutton and Geoff Waugh rode the 2025 Alfine-equipped Editor Hybrid SLT 400X FE. They found that rigid bike efficient and quick to accelerate on tarmac, and firm on riverside gravel. Treat that as context for the latest build's rigid urban idea. It is a previous-generation test, and it is not a test of the automatic Enviolo gearing on the current FE bikes.
