The Trek Powerfly FS+ 6 is for making a bigger day of the off-road rides you already enjoy. It combines full-power Bosch assistance with a full-suspension aluminium frame, so hilly bridleways, long forest-road loops and moderate singletrack need not end when the climbs start to pile up. It suits progressing riders as well as experienced leisure riders who want comfort, traction and a generous battery without stepping into a longer-travel enduro e-MTB.

Its 120 mm rear suspension and 2.40-inch tyres are there to take the sting out of roots, stones and broken tracks. Four-piston brakes with 203 mm rotors add welcome control when wet leaves, long descents and a roughly 25 kg machine are part of the equation. On the published geometry, M, L and XL should feel composed rather than especially flickable, while the S has its own more compact 27.5-inch-wheel setup. This is an electric mountain bike for covering ground with confidence, not for repeated bike-park laps or aggressive enduro descending.

At 25.08 kg in size M on each current build, it is not a bike you will casually sling over a shoulder. That weight is worth planning for if your storage involves stairs, a wall hook or a vehicle rack. In return, the substantial battery capacity and motor assistance make it much easier to stretch a familiar loop into a proper all-day outing.

The official UK RRP is £4,500, but the useful way to identify a current bike is by its component package rather than a retailer year label. There are two materially different Gen 4 versions under the same Powerfly FS+ 6 name: a SRAM Eagle 70 T-Type build and a Shimano SLX/XT build. The battery, frame platform and intended use are closely aligned, but the transmission, fork, brakes, stem and grips differ.

The SRAM Eagle 70 build uses 12-speed T-Type shifting, a 10-52 cassette and FSA 160 mm cranks. Its Shimano four-piston braking system uses 203 mm rotors, but current examples can carry either XT M8120 or BR-MT620 calipers. Its FOX fork specification and travel also vary between current listings, so the individual bike's displayed fork, brakes and drivetrain matter before you choose between offers.

The Shimano SLX/XT build has an SLX shifter, XT rear derailleur and Deore 10-51 cassette, along with Shimano M6120 four-piston brakes. It has the clearly specified FOX AWL Rail HD fork with 130 mm travel. For riders who want a published fork and brake specification nailed down from the outset, that makes it the more straightforward package to identify.

What is the latest Trek Powerfly FS+ 6 generation?

The current UK model is the Powerfly+ FS 6 Gen 4. It brings the Powerfly full-suspension platform up to 120 mm of rear travel, Removable Integrated Battery 2.0 integration, battery capacity up to 800 Wh, revised trail geometry, greater dropper-post insertion and more scope for accessories.

The previous Powerfly FS platform had 100 mm rear travel, a 120 mm fork, batteries up to 625 Wh and the earlier battery arrangement. Gen 4 is therefore a meaningful change for long-distance exploration and day-to-day charging convenience, rather than a minor component refresh. Those changes describe the platform progression, not a like-for-like component claim for a particular earlier FS 6 build.

Gen 4 frame, wheel sizes and ride character

The Alpha Platinum Aluminium frame uses Active Braking Pivot suspension, guided internal cable routing, a Universal Derailleur Hanger, Mino Link adjustment and adjustable leverage-rate hardware. The rear end has 120 mm of travel, while the Shimano build pairs it with a 130 mm FOX fork. That is a sensible amount of suspension for keeping tyres tracking on ordinary singletrack and rough tracks without adding the bulk and descending focus of a 150 mm-plus e-MTB.

Size S is not simply a smaller copy of the larger bike. It uses 27.5-inch wheels, a 65.0-degree head angle and a 100 mm dropper post. Sizes M through XL use 29-inch wheels, a 66.0-degree head angle and a 170 mm dropper. The smaller wheels and purpose-designed rear structure should give shorter riders a more proportionate fit, while the larger wheels on M-XL bring the familiar rollover benefit on lumpy paths. Wheel-diameter conversions are not supported, so choose the size expecting to keep its original wheel format.

Assistance comes from Bosch's Performance Line CX smart system, supplied at 85 Nm. Each current package has an 800 Wh removable PowerTube battery and Purion 200 display. Assistance stops at 25 km/h, as required for this specification, so the bike will feel its weight more clearly once you are pedalling beyond the cut-off or riding with assistance switched off.

Battery, accessories and ownership practicalities

RIB 2.0 makes the large battery removable, which is particularly handy when the bike lives in a shed, garage or shared storage area but charging is easier indoors. For unusually long rides, the frame can take a Bosch PowerMore 250 Wh range extender. It is an optional extra rather than supplied equipment, and fitting it requires a 100 mm reversed cable and mounting hardware. The extra capacity brings extra weight, cost and another battery to keep charged.

The frame is compatible with a rack, full mudguards, lighting routes and bottle storage on every size, giving it more scope than a narrowly focused trail bike. None of that should be mistaken for a factory-fitted commuting kit: the listed standard equipment includes a small protective mudguard, while racks and full mudguards are accessories. The published 136 kg system weight limit includes bike, rider and cargo, which matters if you plan to use the rack for practical loads.

Full suspension, a powerful mid-drive and multiple pivot bearings bring more servicing to think about than a hardtail. Keeping the drivetrain clean after wet rides, maintaining the suspension and having pivots checked as part of routine workshop care will help preserve the quiet, controlled feel that makes this bike enjoyable. The stock braking hardware is well suited to the bike's intended use, and the documented 220 mm rear-rotor option is available with the correct adapter and compatible hardware should a future rider genuinely need it.
