Specialized Turbo Levo 4 Expert

The Specialized Turbo Levo 4 Expert is a carbon full-power e-MTB for confident trail riders who want strong help on steep, technical climbs and a chassis that stays composed on fast, broken descents. You get a FACT 11m carbon frame with 160 mm of fork travel and 150 mm at the rear, mixed 29 in and 27.5 in wheels, and an Expert trail kit: SRAM GX Eagle AXS Transmission, Maven Silver four-piston brakes and 220 mm rotors at both ends.

This is a current UK model, with an original UK RRP of £7,999. It is the carbon Expert build in the Levo 4 generation, above Comp and below Pro. Listings may still carry 2026 or 2027 year tags; those are retailer labels on the same generation, so read the specification rather than the year. The current bike uses a RockShox ZEB Select+ fork and a Super Deluxe Select+ GENIE shock.

Motor, battery and the Expert kit

Specialized's Turbo 3.1 motor is rated at 105 Nm of torque and 810 W of peak power. That's enough shove to keep you choosing lines on a steep pitch, with assistance you can tune through the MasterMind TCU and its 2.2 in screen, app pairing and Apple Find My. Butcher GRID Gravity tyres, 220 mm rotors and the ZEB fork all point at the same job: hard trail riding, not a gentle tow along a canal path.

The fitted battery is an 840 Wh Turbo X2, removed through a side-entry port in the downtube. A 600 Wh Turbo X2 is the option if you want less mass, and an optional 280 Wh range extender adds capacity for longer assisted days. Battery swaps need the matching bracket, so the pack alone is not a complete conversion. Specialized supplies a 4 A charger. The claimed charge from empty to 80% in under an hour only happens with the optional 12 A Smart Charger.

Mixed wheels, travel and S-Sizing

A 29 in front wheel and 27.5 in rear is the stock mixed-wheel format. The larger front wheel helps the bike roll into holes and hold a line; the smaller rear keeps the back end shorter, which is what you notice in tight turns and on switchbacks. BikeRadar's Robin Weaver found the shared Levo 4 platform delivered smooth, controlled assistance and calm, balanced handling on technical climbs and demanding descents.

The ZEB Select+ fork offers high- and low-speed compression and rebound adjustment, with the Super Deluxe Select+ GENIE shock taking 150 mm at the rear. There is real scope to set the bike up for trail-centre chatter or steep natural descents, and that also means a hurried default setup won't give you the best of the travel. Head angle, bottom-bracket height and chainstay length can all be changed on the frame.

Sizes run from S2 to S6. Specialized's S-Sizing asks you to weigh body size against whether you want a more agile or more stable ride: smaller S-numbers keep the bike handier, larger ones add calm at speed. Published reach runs from 435 mm on S2 to 535 mm on S6, with a 64.5 degree head angle across those sizes.

Weight, storage and day-to-day ownership

Specialized claims 24.72 kg for an S4. Actual weight shifts with size, colour and small parts changes, but this is still a bike you will feel on stairs, in a hallway and on a vehicle rack. Ground-level storage and a rack rated for the load make more sense than treating it like a lightweight trail bike.

SWAT storage in the downtube will take a tube, a multi-tool or a thin extra layer, which is handy when you don't want a pack. Specialized also claims lifetime replacement of the suspension bearings, a useful extra on a long-travel e-MTB. The frame supports a fork up to 180 mm if you later want more travel for descents.

The older FOX-equipped Expert

An earlier Turbo Levo 4 Expert build in this same generation used a FOX 38 Performance Elite GRIPX2 fork and FOX FLOAT X Performance Elite GENIE shock, at an official £8,499. That's a previous specification, not a previous generation. Keep the FOX parts on those older bikes and the RockShox Select+ kit on the current £7,999 Expert, rather than mixing the two when you compare offers.

You will get the most from the Turbo Levo 4 Expert on steep, technical days, when the motor, the 160/150 mm travel and the Maven brakes are earning their keep. Wireless GX shifting without Pro pricing is the extra, and the battery can be set up for range or for a bit less mass. Give it space to store, time on the supplied charger and a proper suspension setup, and long climbing days plus rough descents start to fit inside an ordinary weekend.
