Specialized Turbo Como 4.0

The Specialized Turbo Como 4.0 is a full-power step-through e-bike for commuting, shopping, hilly urban journeys and relaxed weekend miles. You get on through a low E5 aluminium frame, sit upright with a clear view of traffic, and a 70Nm Specialized 2.0 mid-drive is there when the road kicks up or the panniers are loaded. The battery is a large 710Wh pack you can unclip, and the bike arrives ready for wet weather and luggage rather than as a bare frame waiting for extras.

The 2027 CUES Como

This is the current UK model. The 2027 Turbo Como 4.0 uses Shimano CUES 9-speed gearing on the full-power Como platform that launched in 2022, and the original UK RRP is £2,800. It sits below the internally geared Como 5.0 and apart from the lighter Como SL bikes. There is one confirmed derailleur build; colour is not a separate specification.

Easy to mount, calm on broken streets

The low-step frame is what most buyers will notice first. You can get on in work shoes, with a backpack, or after filling the panniers, and standover is 355mm on S, M and L. The position is very upright, which helps in traffic and at walking-pace junctions. On the shared frame platform, Cycling Electric found the handling stable and predictable rather than agile.

An SR Suntour MobieA32 fork gives 80mm of travel with a lockout, a 40mm suspension seatpost takes the edge off the saddle, and Hemisphere Flat Protection Reflect tyres in 650b x 2.3 add air volume plus reflective sidewalls. None of that is for rough off-road use. It is there for potholes, speed humps and chewed-up cycle tracks on the way to work.

Assistance comes from the Specialized 2.0 mid-drive: 70Nm of torque and 250W nominal, driving a 40T chainring. It is designed to amplify your pedalling rather than shove you along. The U2-710 battery holds 710Wh, locks into the downtube and lifts out so you can charge it away from the bike. Specialized claims up to 90 miles (145 km) or 6.5 hours in Eco mode. Treat that as a best-case figure. Hills, cold weather, heavy loads, soft tyres and time in the stronger modes all shorten it, so use a more conservative personal range until you know your own consumption.

Shimano CUES U4000 1x9 with an 11-41T cassette is a straightforward spread for town hills and mixed commuting. Hydraulic Shimano BR-MT200 discs, 180mm at the front and 160mm at the rear, handle the extra mass of an upright e-bike. Wet UK miles will mean keeping that chain clean.

You are not starting from a naked bike. DRYTECH mudguards, a hardwired Lezyne 300-lumen front light, a Spanninga rear light with a brake function, a MIK HD rear rack, kickstand, bell and pedals are all fitted. The rack takes panniers and is rated to 27kg, and it can carry an approved child seat. A front-rack mount is built into the frame, so extra cargo up front is an add-on, and Specialized rates the bike to pull a compatible thru-axle trailer. Keep child-seat and trailer loads inside the limits in the relevant manuals; the 27kg rack rating is not the whole-bike payload.

Frames come in S, M and L, all on 650b wheels. Specialized does not publish fixed rider-height bands, so the useful route is its height and shin-length fit tool rather than guessing from a generic chart.

Home charging, security and storage

Being able to unclip the battery is the practical win at home. Charge it on a bench, lock it back in for the ride, and you are not dragging the whole bike to a socket. MasterMind TCD, with a handlebar remote, Bluetooth and app tuning, is how you set assistance. Turbo System Lock can cut that assistance and sound an alarm. Treat it as a deterrent beside a proper physical lock through the frame, not as the lock itself.

Expect a heavy bike. A 2026 medium was listed at 27.92 kg, which is the mass you feel on stairs, trains or a wall hook. Ground-level storage suits it much better, and that bulk is the other side of the large battery, suspension and commuter kit.

Older Turbo Como 4.0 builds

The 2026 Turbo Como 4.0 used the same 70Nm motor, 710Wh battery and CUES 9-speed layout, with only smaller listing differences on cranks, spokes and saddle. The 2022 bike is an earlier build of this full-power platform, not a different generation, but the parts are not the ones on current offers: SRAM NX 11-speed, SRAM Level brakes, a 48T chainring and Pathfinder tyres. Keep that specification separate from the 2027 CUES 4.0.

As a 2027 CUES bike, the Specialized Turbo Como 4.0 is a very complete way to commute, shop and cover hilly everyday miles. You step through, the kit is already on it, and there is enough battery and torque that leaving the car behind starts to feel realistic.
