It is the halo build of the Generation 4 Levo X range, so the spend goes towards the carbon chassis, high-output motor, Factory-level suspension and a notably lavish component list as well as the rack-equipped format.

What the X adds is practical rather than decorative. Its fitted front and rear Levo X racks have a 22 kg combined cargo capacity, letting you shift a meaningful load off your shoulders for loaded day rides and electric bikepacking. That figure is for luggage across both racks, not extra rider capacity. It also pays to pack thoughtfully: bags and kit add mass to an already substantial bike and will affect how it feels through turns and on technical trails. The X arrives with its racks fitted; a separately available rack system for compatible Levo 4 and Levo R bikes is not the same thing as getting this complete setup as standard.

Power for steep, loaded days

Power comes from the Specialized 3.1 S-Works motor, rated at 850W peak power and 111Nm. Those are serious figures for winching up steep climbs with camping kit or getting another lap in before heading home. An integrated 840Wh Turbo X2 battery provides the energy reserve, while the optional 280Wh range extender gives committed adventurers a route to more capacity when a long or heavily loaded ride demands it. The extender brings extra cost and weight, so it is best viewed as a purposeful add-on rather than an automatic purchase.

Charging is geared towards making the most of a riding window. A 12A smart charger has a claimed 0–80% charge time of under one hour, and Specialized claims up to 4.40 hours of range rather than a fixed distance. Actual time in the saddle will vary with assistance level, climbing, surface, rider input and, crucially here, cargo weight. The 2.2in MasterMind TCU, Specialized app support and Apple Find My add useful day-to-day control and locating functions.

Trail bike first, cargo carrier second

Underneath the luggage mounts sits a FACT 11m carbon frame with 150mm of rear travel, partnered with a 160mm FOX 38 Factory fork and FOX Float X Factory shock with Specialized GENIE. The mixed-wheel layout uses a 29in front wheel and 27.5in rear wheel, aiming to blend confidence at the front with a more manoeuvrable rear end. SRAM XX Eagle Transmission AXS covers the 10–52t drivetrain, SRAM Maven Ultimate brakes use 220mm front and 200mm rear HS2 rotors, and Roval Traverse HD hookless carbon wheels roll on DT Swiss 240 hubs. A RockShox Reverb AXS dropper and carbon RaceFace Era bar complete a build intended to arrive ready for demanding trail use, rather than inviting an immediate upgrade list.

Fit starts with Specialized's S-Sizing system, offered from S2 to S6. The published height bands overlap, which is useful for riders who know whether they prefer the quicker feel of a smaller frame or the added composure of a longer one. S4 is the central size, while S5 and S6 extend reach and wheelbase for riders wanting a more stable stance. One detail deserves attention on S3: the published dropper-travel information conflicts, so confirm the fitted post travel before buying if saddle clearance is important to your fit.

Living with the Levo 4 X

At a claimed 27.25 kg in size S4 before cargo, this is not a bike to casually carry upstairs or flick onto a high vehicle rack. Make sure your storage route and any vehicle carrier can safely accommodate the bike and the luggage you plan to take. The hookless carbon wheels and supplied tyres are tubeless-ready but arrive with tubes; converting with compatible valves, sealant and tyres can improve puncture resistance and allow lower pressures for trail riding.
