Bikesy's Verdict

The Specialized Turbo Creo 2 Comp suits riders who want one drop-bar e-bike for tarmac, gravel tracks and long climbs, with assistance that still feels like cycling. GRX Di2, the 10-51t cassette, Future Shock 3.2 and a 50mm dropper are the parts that shape mixed days, and claimed size-56 weight is 14.65 kg. Up to five hours of assisted riding is the planning figure, stretchable with a range extender if you can spare a bottle cage. Fast group riders will feel the extra mass above 15.5mph, and charging means plugging in the whole bike. Riders who want composure on mixed surfaces more than a featherweight road e-bike will get a lot from this Comp.

Pros

  • Rider-led 50Nm SL 1.2 assistance that still leaves you doing the work
  • FACT 11r carbon frame quoted at 14.65 kg for a size 56
  • GRX Di2 with a 44t chainring and 10-51t climbing cassette
  • Future Shock 3.2, 700x50c tyres and a 50mm dropper for broken roads and loose descents
  • Rack and mudguard mounts, with a compatible range extender if you need more distance

Cons

  • Stronger road riders will notice the extra mass above the 15.5mph UK cutoff; a faster tyre setup helps
  • The 320Wh battery is fully integrated, so you need space to charge and store the whole bike
  • Road-dominant riders may want narrower rubber than the fitted 700x50c pair

The Specialized Turbo Creo 2 Comp is aimed at riders who want subtle electric help on long mixed-surface days rather than a full-power e-bike. You still pedal a drop-bar bike, but Specialized's 1.2 SL motor, claimed at 320 Watts and 50Nm, helps on steep climbs, into headwinds and over extra distance. High-volume 700x50c tyres, Future Shock 3.2 and a 50mm X-Fusion Manic dropper give it genuine gravel manners, so one bike can cover tarmac, farm tracks and light bikepacking.

It is the current UK model, sold as the Turbo Creo 2 Comp with Shimano GRX Di2 at an official original UK RRP of £4,999.

The GRX Di2 carbon build

This Comp uses a FACT 11r carbon frame on Specialized's Creo 2 mixed-surface electric platform. The motor, fully integrated 320Wh SL1-320 battery, MasterMind TCU and 12x142mm rear axle sit inside that generation, with internal routing and mounts for a rack and mudguards. Those mounts are compatibility points. The accessories themselves are not listed as fitted.

Shimano GRX Di2 does the shifting, with RX715/717 levers, an RD-RX717 12-speed rear derailleur, a 44t chainring and GRX RX410 hydraulic discs. Carbon, electronic shifting, Future Shock 3.2 and the dropper are why this Comp is £1,000 more at RRP than the separate alloy Comp E5, which uses mechanical Apex Eagle, Future Shock 2.0 and a fixed seatpost. It sits below the Expert carbon builds in the range.

Climbing help and mixed-surface control

Assistance is strong enough for very steep climbs, yet it arrives in a natural, rider-led way. MicroTune lets you trim support from the handlebar remote, and the MasterMind TCU talks to the Specialized app over ANT+ and Bluetooth. Specialized claims up to five hours of assisted riding, though assistance level, wind, climbing and your own input all change that figure.

On the road, endurance geometry and 20mm of Future Shock 3.2 travel take the edge off broken surfaces without the bob of a conventional suspension fork. Leave the tarmac and the 700x50c Tracer TLR tyres, plus stated clearance up to 29x2.2, give you far more tyre than a typical electric road bike. The dropper is the extra that matters on a steep, loose descent: drop the saddle 50mm and you can move your weight back without stopping.

Specialized quotes 14.65 kg for a size 56. That keeps it lively for an e-bike with this tyre volume, but UK law cuts assistance at 15.5mph, so stronger road riders will feel the mass once they are above the limit.

Charging, tyres and upkeep

The 44t chainring and 10-51t cassette give a very low climbing gear, which suits the 50Nm motor on long hills. GRX Di2 adds a small shifter battery to keep charged beside the 320Wh main pack. Because that pack is fully integrated, convenient bike-level charging and dry indoor storage matter more than they would with a removable battery.

A Specialized Range Extender is compatible but not fitted. It stretches longer days, at the cost of a bottle-cage mount and extra weight. DT Swiss G540 rims and Tracer TLR tyres are tubeless-ready and come with inner tubes, so converting is an ownership choice. Bias the bike toward tarmac with a faster, narrower tyre, or toward rougher tracks within the 29x2.2 limit. Plan for ordinary chain, pad and cassette wear, plus specialist support for the motor, battery, software and Future Shock hardware.

Frame sizes run 49, 52, 54, 56, 58 and 61, with crank length, bar width, stem and seatpost changing through the range. Manufacturer height bands overlap, especially around 54, 56 and 58, so reach and stack are the figures to trust rather than height alone.

Earlier SRAM Comp bikes

The earlier Turbo Creo 2 Comp on this carbon generation used SRAM Apex/X1 Eagle AXS wireless mullet shifting and 700x47c tyres. Leftover or used SRAM listings are the same Creo 2 carbon platform with a different groupset and a slightly narrower stock tyre, not an older frame generation.

With the right size, the current Comp can turn a hilly loop or a gravel day into a ride you finish fresher, without giving up drop bars on the way home.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Specialized 1.2 SL motor and 320Wh battery: Claimed 320 Watts and 50Nm of support, trimmed from the bar with MicroTune and managed through the MasterMind TCU and app. Assisted riding is claimed at up to five hours, and a range extender can be added if you spare a bottle cage.
  • Mixed-surface control package: 20mm of Future Shock travel, high-volume 700x50c tyres and a 50mm dropper work together on poor tarmac and loose descents, while 29x2.2 clearance leaves room to change how the bike feels.
  • GRX Di2, 44t chainring and RX410 discs: A very low climbing gear matches the motor on long hills, electronic shifting keeps changes quick under load, and hydraulic GRX discs handle wet British roads.
  • Mounts and tubeless-ready wheels: You can add mudguards or a rack for commuting and light touring, though those parts are extras. The DT Swiss G540 rims and Tracer TLR tyres can be converted when you want lower pressures.

Alternatives to Consider

The Specialized Turbo Creo 2 Comp E5 uses the same 320Wh battery and 50Nm motor system. Claimed size-56 weight is only 0.34 kg higher, but the frame is alloy, shifting is mechanical Apex Eagle, Future Shock is the 2.0 version and the seatpost is fixed. Stay with this Comp for carbon, electronic shifting and the dropper; the E5 is the route to the same assistance concept without those parts.

The Canyon Endurace:ONfly CF 7 is the road-focused rival, with a claimed weight of 11.72 kg, Shimano 105 Di2, integrated lights and tracking. The Creo 2 Comp has 700x50c tyres, a fitted dropper and much greater stated tyre clearance. Riders who want tarmac speed and low weight will prefer the Canyon; mixed-surface composure is the Comp's advantage.

Reviews

Tom Wieckowski's Cyclingnews first ride of the Creo 2 carbon launch generation used the Turbo Creo 2 Expert with SRAM Force/GX rather than this GRX Di2 Comp. He found the platform engaging and highly capable on road, gravel and steep off-road climbing. Descents that approached mountain-bike difficulty still felt punishing, which is a useful limit for anyone hoping a drop-bar e-bike will replace a trail bike.

Eric Bangeman at Ars Technica spent several months on a Turbo Creo 2 Comp with SRAM Apex/X1 Eagle AXS, the previous build on the same carbon generation. He praised the natural assistance and convincing road-and-gravel versatility, while noting that personal fit and contact points needed adjustment, including a saddle change after hand numbness on a size 56.
