Bikesy's Verdict
The Whyte Kado RSX is a serious, mature full-power eMTB that makes difficult climbs and rough descents more accessible. It best suits intermediate and experienced riders who want planted, confidence-inspiring handling, a removable 800Wh battery and strong UK-friendly equipment. The calm chassis, powerful Magura brakes and electronic SRAM shifting are the standout reasons to choose it. The main trade-off is that its planted full-power format can feel excessive on mellow trails, and the stock 36T chainring may feel tall on extreme climbs. Riders who prioritise low weight, easy lifting or a highly playful feel should look elsewhere. For committed trail and enduro riders, the RSX is a deeply capable and satisfying companion.
Pros
- Calm, confidence-inspiring handling on fast and rough trails
- Removable 800Wh Bosch battery with optional 250Wh extender
- Powerful Magura MT7 brakes and robust tyres for demanding UK conditions
- Electronic SRAM S1000 AXS shifting without a separate derailleur battery
- Weather-focused frame details and strong extended warranty proposition
Cons
- Planted full-power format can feel excessive on mellow trails
- Stock 36T chainring can make the lowest gear feel tall on extreme climbs
- Mixed-wheel conversion requires a separate link, wheel and tyre
Who the Whyte Kado RSX suits
The Kado RSX is Whyte's full-carbon, full-power trail and enduro eMTB. It is built for riders who want to climb steep technical trails without an uplift, then carry speed through rough descents with a calm, planted feel. If your riding is mostly mellow, smooth or flat, this bike will feel like far more machine than you need. If you are an intermediate or experienced mountain biker chasing big days out, the RSX makes a strong case for itself.
The current UK model is the Kado RSX (v2). It is a build revision of the first-generation carbon Kado platform, not a new frame generation. The two current colourways, Ash grey and Midnight blue, share the same published equipment and £7,199.00 RRP. Older V1 bikes still appear in remaining-stock offers, so it is worth checking which build a retailer is actually listing before you compare prices.
Carbon Kado platform, geometry and ride character
The RSX uses a full uni-directional carbon mainframe and rear triangle with a four-bar Horst-Link layout. Whyte positions the Bosch motor and battery low and central, which helps the bike feel settled and balanced when the trail gets steep or loose. The Shape.it Link V2 gives you two published head-angle settings, 65 degrees and 64.4 degrees, so you can tune the steering between a slightly quicker feel and a more relaxed, high-speed stance.
Independent tests of the V1 platform described the ride as exceptionally planted and confidence-inspiring. BikeRadar found it calm and fast on steep ground, with excellent climbing grip, but less playful and more physically demanding to redirect than some rivals. MBR found it easy to corner and strongly equipped for UK riding. The honest summary is that this bike rewards committed lines and high-speed stability more than constant direction changes.
The 160mm Fox 38 fork and 150mm Fox Float X shock provide support and control for hard trail and enduro use. The suspension is supportive rather than ultra-plush over small chatter, which suits riders who want the bike to hold its shape under load. The steep seat angle and long rear centre help keep both wheels planted on technical climbs, while the 36T chainring can leave the lowest gear feeling tall on the very steepest ascents.
Bosch power, battery and range
The RSX uses the Bosch Performance Line CX Smart System with up to 120Nm maximum possible torque, 750W maximum power and 250W rated continuous output. The removable PowerTube 800Wh battery slides out for indoor charging, storage or swapping. There is no fixed mileage claim because range changes with terrain, assistance mode, rider mass, temperature and climbing. The practical point is that 800Wh is intended for substantial days out, and an optional 250Wh PowerMore extender can raise combined capacity to 1050Wh.
The extender is not supplied. It uses the lower down-tube bottle position, so you may need to plan hydration storage differently if you add one. The bike can also accept compatible 600Wh and 800Wh batteries with the appropriate Whyte end caps, which is useful if you want a lighter battery for shorter rides.
UK durability, servicing and ownership
Whyte has paid attention to wet-weather riding. The frame has sealed ports, a protected charge area, an integrated rear fender and marine-grease-packed bearings. These details help with frequent UK use, but they do not remove the need for cleaning, drying and scheduled bearing and electrical inspection.
This is not a low-maintenance utility e-bike. Budget for suspension servicing, drivetrain wear and competent Bosch and electronic-shifting support. The SRAM S1000 AXS rear derailleur draws power from the main e-bike system, so you do not need to charge a separate derailleur battery. The derailleur also has replaceable impact and cage parts, which can make crash repair more economical than replacing the whole unit.
The bike has a 120kg total system weight limit for bicycle, rider and all carried equipment. It is not approved for towing or child carriers. Registration within 28 days activates the extended frame and pivot-bearing warranties for the original owner.
What changed from the Kado RSX V1?
The current V2 changes the display, dropper post and headset. It uses an integrated Bosch Kiox 400C display, a TranzX +RAD dropper and an FSA No. 55R headset. The previous V1 used a separate Purion 400 display arrangement, a KS Vantage dropper and a different FSA headset. The core carbon frame, suspension travel, SRAM electronic drivetrain, Magura brakes, DT Swiss wheels and 800Wh Bosch platform remain closely related to V1.
Do not use the V1's published 24.2kg weight as the current V2 figure. The current V2 weight is not published. When comparing offers, focus on display, dropper, headset, published weight and price rather than assuming the frame was redesigned.

Alternatives to Consider
The Specialized Turbo Levo 4 Comp is a close carbon 160mm/150mm full-power rival with the same S1000 AXS shifting level. It has a 840Wh battery, 105Nm torque, 810W power, mixed wheels and internal SWAT storage. The Kado has an 800Wh battery, up to 120Nm, 750W and stock 29in wheels at both ends. The choice comes down to power, storage and handling priorities rather than one bike being clearly better.
The Trek Rail+ 9.8 Gen 5 is a similarly priced Bosch competitor with an 800Wh battery and up to 120Nm. The Rail+ uses 160mm travel at both ends and mixed wheels, while the Kado uses 160mm front, 150mm rear and stock 29in wheels front and rear. The Trek suits buyers wanting more rear travel and a factory mixed-wheel layout; the Whyte targets full-29 stability and a slightly shorter-travel rear platform.
Reviews
Independent ride feedback
BikeRadar's Alex Evans tested the Kado RSX V1 and found it exceptionally planted, calm and fast on steep ground, with excellent climbing grip. The same review noted that it felt less playful and more physically demanding to redirect than some rivals, with supportive rather than ultra-plush suspension and gearing that could feel too tall on the steepest climbs.
MBR's test team also rode the V1 and described it as easy to corner, highly confidence-inspiring and strongly equipped for UK riding. They praised the powerful brakes and impressive technical-climbing traction, while noting that the 800Wh battery could feel excessive on mellow trails where a lighter bike may be more engaging.
