Tern wins E-Mobility Brand of the Year at the BikeBiz Awards 2026
By Marco Faimali, co-founder of Bikesy
On 15 October I had the job of handing over E-Mobility Brand of the Year at the BikeBiz Awards in Birmingham. Bikesy sponsored the category, and the winner was Tern.
The BikeBiz Awards are the UK bike trade's own awards, run by the esteemed trade magazine BikeBiz for more than 15 years. This year's ceremony took place at the Button Factory in Birmingham, hosted by cycling journalist and commentator Rebecca Charlton. Twenty awards were handed out across retail, distribution, brands, impact and industry life.
Bikesy sponsored the E-Mobility Brand of the Year, so I went along to present it. Handing it to Tern was a genuine pleasure.
Why Tern is a worthy winner
The winner was chosen by a judging panel. To my mind, Tern have been at the forefront of making the e-bike a real alternative to the car for UK families this year. Tern's range is built around jobs that people would otherwise drive for: the weekly shop, the school run, the commute with a laptop and a change of clothes. You get the idea.
The Tern GSD is the best-known example. It's a longtail cargo bike with a 200kg maximum gross weight and room for two child seats on the back. The shorter HSD is easier to live with in traffic and still carries one child. The NBD has an ultra-low step-through frame for riders who might find a standard bike hard to get on and off of. The Vektron brings the same thinking to a folding e-bike for mixed train/bike commutes.
What ties them together is engineering for real loads. The cargo models use Bosch's Cargo Line motor, which is tuned for torque on steep hills rather than top speed. The adjustable handlepost and stem fit riders from roughly 4ft 11in to 6ft 5in, so one bike can be shared by two very different riders.
As you would expect, engineering of this quality doesn't come cheap, but at the time of writing, Tern e-bikes on Bikesy start at £2,849 which is exactly why we compare prices across UK retailers, so buyers can see who has the best deal before they commit. You can also browse the full Tern range, including its non-electric folding bikes.
A strong shortlist
Tern had serious competition. The seven finalists were:
- VOLT
- UTO Folding Electric Bikes
- Gazelle
- Ado E-bike
- Estarli
- Tern
- Vok E-bikes
That list says a lot about where the UK e-bike market is heading: folding e-bikes for commuters short on space, Dutch-style upright bikes for everyday riding, and sturdy cargo bikes for families and small businesses. Congratulations to every brand that even made it onto the list, there was a lot of competition.
Why Bikesy backs e-bikes
I firmly believe e-bikes are one of the best answers we have to everyday transport. Driving keeps on getting more expensive, and an e-bike makes short journeys cheaper, healthier and a lot more enjoyable. They also help get people into cycling who never thought it was for them, whether that's because of hills, distance, age or fitness, or just because it breaks the association of cycling being "sporty".
We all know an e-bike is a big purchase, and that's where Bikesy can help. You can compare e-bike prices across UK retailers, find discounted ex-demo e-bikes, or start with our guide to the best electric bikes under £500 if you're on a tighter budget.
Supporting the people who make and sell bikes matters to us too. Bikesy has sponsored the BikeBiz Awards since 2017:
- 2017: Online Retailer award
- 2021: Cycle Advocacy Award
- 2022: Diversity Champion
- 2025: Event of the Year
- 2026: E-Mobility Brand of the Year
Thanks to BikeBiz for another great evening, to charity partner the Bikeability Trust, and congratulations to all this year's winners. You can read the full list of BikeBiz Awards 2026 winners on BikeBiz, along with their announcement of Bikesy's sponsorship.
