Bikesy's Verdict
The GSD P10 is the Gen 3 longtail for a household that wants two children, one adult passenger or a heavy load off the car, on paved roads and graded, maintained gravel. Its appeal is the full platform at the lowest official UK RRP in the range, £4,700.00, with a 210 kg gross vehicle weight, a 100 kg rear rack and Bosch Cargo Line assistance. A second 500Wh battery is supported beyond the fitted pack. The fitted pack's manufacturer claimed range is 40-102 km, with no test conditions stated. Seats and foot support are extra, the Deore chain needs regular care, and a claimed 34.64 kg, which may omit racks and fenders, is a serious lift. It is worth owning if you want this carrying ability and will plan for the kit and that weight.
Pros
- Keeps the full 210 kg Gen 3 platform and 100 kg rack at the range's lowest official UK RRP
- Bosch Cargo Line assistance at 85 Nm and up to 400% support, with room for a second 500Wh battery
- Low-step one-size frame and a tool-free cockpit for riders from 150 to 200 cm
- Magura MT5 four-piston brakes with a brake-light sensor, and a locking double kickstand for loading
Cons
- Claimed weight is 34.64 kg and may exclude racks and fenders, so stairs and lifting need a plan
- Passenger seats, handholds and foot support are extra, so the bike price is not a ready school-run setup
- The Deore chain needs cleaning, lubrication and wear servicing, and System 2 lacks Smart System connected locking, alarm, tracking and updates
If the school run, a passenger or a heavy shop is why you want a longtail, the GSD P10 is the appealing one. It's Tern's compact electric cargo bike for two children, one adult or a substantial load, on paved roads and graded, maintained gravel. In the Gen 3 GSD range it has the lowest official UK RRP, £4,700.00, and that figure is the list price rather than today's selling price.
The latest official UK version is Gen 3: a 500Wh PowerPack, a Purion display, a Deore 1x10 drivetrain, a 50 mm fork and a 210 kg maximum gross vehicle weight. A 2025 label is not an official model year. The HSD P10 is a separate, smaller bike for one passenger, with a lower gross vehicle weight.
What it will carry
The 210 kg maximum gross vehicle weight is the whole moving mass: bike, batteries, rider, accessories, cargo and passengers. It isn't spare capacity on top of the bike. The Atlas G rear rack is limited to 100 kg and the rider to 130 kg, and a full rack still has to fit inside the 210 kg total. The 6061-AL MultiTruss frame is DIN 79010 certified to that 210 kg figure, so the gross weight is a certified rating.
The claimed bike weight of 34.64 kg won't give you a tidy remainder, because Tern notes that the published figure may not include racks and fenders. Work from the bike as you will actually ride it, then take off the rider, the batteries and the accessories, and what's left is the room for people or cargo. That same weight is why stairs and an unassisted lift need a plan.
The rack, an integrated wheel guard and the Atlas Lockstand Gen 2 come fitted. The kickstand locks and has a remote unlock, so the bike can stay planted while you load it. Seating, handholds and foot support don't come with it. Up to two compatible rack-mounted child seats are supported in approved configurations, and they are a separate purchase.
The brakes are Magura MT5 four-piston hydraulic discs, and the e-stop levers include a brake-light sensor. They're fitted, not an upgrade. With children or a heavy load on the rack, that is the stopping kit you want on the bike from the start.
Assistance and how far you might get
The motor is Bosch's Cargo Line, with 85 Nm and up to 400% support. Assistance stops at 25 kph, the EU limit specified for this system. The assistance is there to help get a heavy bike moving, not to raise your cruising speed. Bosch eBike System 2 and the Purion display are the straightforward controls that come at this price, without the connected locking, alarm, tracking or updates of Smart System builds.
One 500Wh PowerPack is fitted, and a second bay lets you add another compatible 500Wh pack for 1000Wh in total. Tern publishes a manufacturer claimed range of 40-102 km on 500Wh and 82-207 km on 1000Wh, for the single-battery and optional dual-battery setups, without stating test conditions. Treat those as wide bands rather than the distance a loaded week will return. The extra battery extends the published band, and it adds cost and weight.
One frame for the household, and where it will live
There is one low-step frame size, with a tool-free adjustable cockpit, so more than one rider can set their own position. Published standover is 49 cm, so you can stand over the frame when you stop with the rack loaded, and rider weight is capped at 130 kg.
At 191 cm long it is a hallway-and-shed bike more than a cupboard bike. It can stand and roll vertically, and it FlatFolds for a van or a larger car boot. Keep it to the use Tern specifies: personal riding with both wheels on paved roads or graded and maintained gravel roads. There is 50 mm of fork travel for those surfaces, not for proper off-road riding.
The chain, and the support around it
The gears are a Shimano Deore 1x10 with an 11-42T cassette: a low ratio for setting off with weight on the rack, and a taller one once you are rolling. It's a chain, not a belt, and it needs cleaning, lubrication and replacement as it wears. That upkeep is the trade for a serviceable drivetrain. Tern recommends a professional service every six months or 1,000 km, with the chain, brakes and tyres checked between services.
The frame, fork and handlepost warranty is five years, extended to ten if you register for Tern Care in time. Essential Bosch e-bike replacement parts are supported for at least seven years. On a bike you might keep for years of family trips, that matters as much as the first service interval.
The trips it is built for are the ordinary repeated ones, with children or cargo on the rack and a motor that helps get a heavy bike rolling. One adjustable cockpit means it doesn't have to belong to a single rider in the house.
Key Features & Benefits
- Lights and a frame lock, fitted: Dark rides and parking are covered from the start, with an Ignis headlight, an always-on RearStop brake light and a keyed-alike ABUS or AXA frame lock.
Geometry
Published geometry for the Gen 3 500Wh 1x10 build, one-size low-step frame.
| Size | Wheel size | Wheelbase | Standover | Bike size | Folded size | Seatpost to handlebar | Saddle to pedal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| One size | 20 in | 1350 mm | 490 mm | 191 × 68 × 116 cm | 182 × 46 × 87 cm | 49-59 cm | 69-105 cm |
Published folded dimensions may omit racks and fenders.
Alternatives to Consider
The Tern GSD P00 uses the same 210 kg Gen 3 platform. Where the P10 has a serviceable Deore chain drivetrain and Bosch eBike System 2, the P00 has an Enviolo Heavy Duty hub, a Gates belt and Bosch Smart System. It suits you if you would rather skip chain maintenance and use those connected features, and its official list price is higher.
The Tern Quick Haul Long D9 has a lower official price and a lower claimed weight. Set against the P10, it is less capable on the figures that matter here: 190 kg gross vehicle weight rather than 210 kg, a 90 kg rack rather than 100 kg, a rigid fork rather than 50 mm of travel, one battery arrangement rather than dual-battery support, and a 155-190 cm fit range rather than 150-200 cm.
