Rock Machine Crossride e400

If you want a step-through e-bike for commuting, cycle paths and longer leisure days, the current Crossride e400 Touring is the Shimano-powered model to look at. It is a low-entry 29er in aluminium, with an 80 mm RST Blaze fork, a 40 Nm Shimano Steps E5000 motor and a 504 Wh Darfon battery. Lights, full mudguards, an AVS-compatible rear carrier, a kickstand and a frame lock are already fitted.

Match offers on the motor, not the name alone. This page is the official no-B Crossride e400 Touring with Shimano Steps E5000 and Darfon 504 Wh. Bosch Crossride e400B and e400 B Touring bikes are separate models. So is Crossride e400 Lady Touring. INT in a listing usually means the 2021 generation, which used a Zoom 65 mm fork rather than this RST Blaze 80 mm fork. The 2019 bike had a frame-mounted 418 Wh battery and different geometry, so do not apply those specifications to current offers.

Motor, battery and range

The E5000 is a 36 V, 250 W mid-drive with 40 Nm of torque, and assistance cuts out at 15.5 mph. Rock Machine positions it for commuting, cycle paths and longer leisure or touring rides. It has less climbing and load-carrying reserve than the 50 Nm e400B or the 90 Nm e450.

You can take the integrated 504 Wh Darfon pack out to charge indoors or to store it: the UK retailer lists it as removable, and a Darfon 4A Smart Plus charger is supplied. The display is a Shimano SC-E5000.

Treat the published range figures as maximum claims, not a guarantee. Rock Machine's GB page states up to 185 km. Halfords states up to 93 miles in its description and 90 miles in its table. Actual range varies with assistance, terrain, weather, load and battery condition.

Everyday equipment

Because the lights, mudguards, carrier, kickstand and frame lock are fitted, you can use it as everyday transport without buying those extras first. Compatible panniers, baskets or other AVS accessories go on the carrier that is already there, within the carrier manufacturer's limits.

Gearing is Shimano Altus 1×9, with a 38T chainring and 11–36T cassette, so there is no front derailleur to live with. Shimano MT200 hydraulic discs take care of braking, and the 80 mm RST Blaze fork is there for poorer surfaces on a commute or a towpath spin.

Sizes

The official GB page currently displays L and XL only. There are no verified rider-height or inseam figures for this generation, so a test ride or a retailer fit check is the way to confirm it works for you. If you are shorter, do not assume a smaller size is available.
