This tour is complete<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tour wents from the fjords of Oslo in Norway, along the west coast of Sweden to its arrival in Aarhus, Denmark, right in time for Next Library conference and the opening of Dokk1. So with us purloining that name we were of course obliged to include a food theme. We\u2019re trying hard to please your palates. Through our setup we\u2019re making sure that you get to enjoy some of the local cuisine along the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This set-up includes free breakfast and lunch as always, but also provides you for a chance to sample the local specialities as we roll. It also provides for a natural theme along the route, what the stomach is full off. Food is such an integral part of integration and a disarming way to meet new people. Does your libraries employ this as an active strategy? We\u2019re starved to learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nippe is once again at the business end of the pots and pans and will make sure we get those roadside meals that makes you pedal a bit faster. Watch out for the seathorn juice at breakfast, a veteran trick is to fill your bottle in the morning with some and then dilute it as we go. Nippe is as always using local produce but we\u2019ll also make sure to provide you with the opportunity to sample some of the delicious roadside freebies provides by the rugged landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Sweden we\u2019ve a kelp workshop slated with Caxalot. Time to work those arms instead of the legs, that illusive kelp is best harvested from a kayak. We however feel confident that some amongst us will shirk of all the gear and go dipping for that natural flavour somehow else. Remember to bring a towel!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Denmark we\u2019ll taste a bit of history as we go near Limfjorden. The legends goes that French monks once seeded those waterways with mussels to improve on the usual staple diet of well\u2026. porridge. So we\u2019ll fire up the barbeque and grill some of the local fruits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At several locations we\u2019ll have the opportunity for prearranged dinners these are paid dinners and we\u2019ll have to charge you a fee for these. We do our best to keep the costs as low as possible and the price is around 10 euros per sitting. We\u2019ll advice you in advance when this opportunity is available. At some locations we\u2019re going to set you free and let you forage on your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ll of course ride out with a BANG! So we end it with a party. We\u2019re pleased to tell you that Viby Library is providing room for our rowdy final where we will fill stomachs and glasses alike. Really!?!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New buildings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>August 17, 2015 in 2015, 2015 tour, News, Themes, Themes 2015 New Nordic<br>As a part of our collection of themes for this years tour, we\u2019re happy to give you an introduction to the<br>theme that makes up our focus on architecture and how to create the frames for new libraries.<br>This theme is one of the cornerstones of this years tour as it early became apparent that through alligning Oslo-Gothenburg- Aarhus we\u2019d already created a strong narrative around how we create new frames for our services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oslo<br>Starting with Oslo where the planning of a new Deichmannske library is in the works. Raising the question of which servuces is relevant in a new library and how that impacts planning the facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gothenburg<br>Gothenburg main library isn\u2019t as such new but has recently undergone an update of the building at the<br>same location a task which provided special challenges and opportunities as the different departments of<br>the public library was housed in different other facilities around the city. We\u2019re looking forward to learning about what kind of impact it had on the different sections and what the take aways were from dispersing only to reassemble under one roof. Did this lead to a different balancing of functions, new partners and a change in services?<br>Read more about the renovations here!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aarhus<br>Aarhus \u2019s new mediahouse Dokk1 (\u201dd\u00e5kken\u201d in lokal dialect) just openend and a treasurethrove lessons in anything from cityplanning to makerspace. The library houses a wide variaty of services and opportunities for the public. The location right at the end of two axis of the city, new harbour front and the reoppening of a stream provides for a beautiful and impressive setting. We\u2019re looking towards hearing the honest story about the experiences surrounding creating one of the largest libraries in Scandinavia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The library in Dokk1 gives you free access to a world of information, inspiration, learning and entertainment. The library at Dokk1 is a center for knowledge and culture which disseminates and makes a variety of media come alive across genres and formats. The library is the citizens\u2019 house. Staff and management of the organisation continually work with public involvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Dokk1, you will find about 350,000 media for children and adults. Examples of media are books, audio books, ebooks, magazines, music and games. Such a large number of media in one place requires a logical and clear structure of media that makes it easy to navigate and find what you need. We work hard to make media easily accessible and easy to find.<br>In the library, we make digital media a priority and we are constantly keeping abreast of the future. We still have lots of books as well, of course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every day we hold events, exhibits, debates and many other things at the library. For the last 2 years I\u2019ve been heading up an effort to run library related programs as a project to explore the relevance between libraries and makerspaces. We\u2019ve played with information and copyright. Changed the digital and physical function of the libraries by providing a change for the public to \u201dHack YOUR library\u201d. Empowering librarians to change their facilities. Creating engaging learning tracks in corporation with schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dGet a 3D printer and save the library!\u201d I hope we\u2019re not quite there yet. At times though it seems like we look at technology as the sole source towards saving libraries. Well if you get a machine what is there to save ? To be completely honest most 3D printers, about 90% of the ones I see, and I do see a lot. Makes me ponder, we\u2019re talking about a 30 year old technology that\u2019s mostly becomme relevant due to a drastic lowering of price and a fascination with Startrek. The types of 3D printers most libraries acquire are a simple FFF-models which are basically a gluegun controlled by a computer, they all utilize the same technology as a 3rd grader making a clay bowl in arts and crafts- by rolling sausages of clay and putting them on top of each other. That being said, there is a saving grace for these machines they all make use of digital design files. From a information specialist point of view that is a huge grace, it\u2019s what makes for exploring how we perceive the world, cooperate and transition from information to relevant knowledge. Very ethereal, I know but I\u2019ve taken 5 points with me where makerspaces and libraries makes sense together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PR.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Informationskills in context.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Community building and incoorporating volunteers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sustainability and understanding the world around you. As we\u2019ve been sponsored an I-sense 3D-scanner I\u2019ll set-up a 3D-selfiebooth when ever it\u2019s convenient. Be back at 6:30 pm at the latest!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A visit to Vitlycke Museum &amp; Tanum World Heritage<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>August 12, 2015 in 2015, 2015 tour, News<br>VIM_VARLDSARV_IAN_SCHEMPER_1400_2<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rock Carvings in Tanum (Swedish: H\u00e4llristningsomr\u00e5det i Tanum), near Tanumshede, Bohusl\u00e4n, Sweden, has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because of the high concentration of petroglyphs. One of the larger rocks of Nordic Bronze Age petroglyphs in Scandinavia, the Vitlyckeh\u00e4ll, is located in Tanumshede.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On September 3 we will join one of Vitlycke museum guides and visit the largest and most famous rock carvings. The guide will tell us more about these 3000 year old images that are so unique in the world that they are included on UNESCO\u2019s World Heritage List.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>V\u00e4starvet is Sweden\u2019s largest organization engaged in administering our natural and cultural heritage. On Friday we\u2019ll provide an optional tour taking us from the new harbour area of Aarhus, through Dokk1 the spanking new media house, all the way to historic, scenic and cutting<br>edge museums of Moesgaard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The day will start at 9. am right at the new waterfront in Aarhus with plenty of new architecture, repurposing of industrial areas and cityplanning to gaze at. We\u2019ll be trying to navigate all the sprawling building sites and negotiate the new and old harbour till we arrive at the new main library in Aarhus. At Dokk1 we\u2019ll have an extensive tour with plenty of opportunity to explore and learn about how to make a cutting edge library right at the waterfront. Did we mention there\u2019s a train running right through it? From Dokk1 we\u2019ll explore the rest of the harbour whilst rolling through the industrial part of it towards Marselisborg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The route takes us through the forrested suburbs of Marselisborg to the scenic outlook of \u00d8rnereden (Eagles Nest) this spot used to house a pier for the the coastal tourboats sailing all over the bay on weekends, not much left of that fabled excursion spot apart for facilities to house a gang of cycling librarians hungry for lunch. Lunch will be provided and included in the cost, please note any dietary requests when signing up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Museums in the hills. Moesgaard museum is somewhat of an institution in Aarhus and it used to be based mostly on their out-door facilities, the museum has always had a focus on the viking heritage due to some extraordinary finds, Gravballemanden og Moesgaardstenen are some of the iconic centerpieces in the old<br>collection. An old collection with a brand new home, the new museum is a centerpiece in the rolling hills and on top of providing housing for a very select and engaging collection also provides for a view platform second to none. Take a (st)roll down the roof if your looking for a stomach churning experience above the<br>average. Entry to the museum is included in the tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Optionally or as an extra the museums outdoor facilities are available for a stroll. Walk from the new new museum past the old facilities and mansion right through the park. In the park climb through the princess-tree with its rumoured currative effects, great for saddlesores! Then onwards through the forrest to the forrest mill, an old watermill, now museum. The mill provides for an excellent glimpse into a past where it served as sawmill, flourmill and even generated electricity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the route is fairly straight forward, follow the bikepath back, there will be no previous arranged group riding back, so take your time and explore all the viking huts on the beach or venture into the old barrow if you dare!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final price of the day-tour will be disclosed at a later date when we have a tally of the number of participants. But expect something in the range of 25-30 Euro. They are classic bikes with three gears and coaster brakes. They are equipped with lights and bells. The bikes comes in 2 models male and female frames and in one colour Black (so bring something to personalize your bikes with, flags, easy-come-off-stickers, teddybears to ziptie unto them..what do we know\u2026<br>Standard lock is provided with personal key (now you see the need for personalizing\u2026I parked over there and I have a Black bike..ohh)<br>There are no additional accessories so you will need to bring your own helmets, bike bags\/panniers, bottle holders, saddle covers etc. If you want to buy this in Oslo the cheapest and simplest option is to visit XXL Oslo Sentrum \u2013 same price in shop as on website, Storgata 2 (map). As the keen observers you are you\u2019ll have noticed that this is a day later than the tour ends. This allows for us to have bicycles for those of you who\u2019ll be participating in the optional day in Aarhus (remember to sign<br>up). For those of you leaving on Thursday we\u2019ll go through the bikes with you and lock them up until pick-up (see contracts section for details)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Liabilities and contracts<br>The contracts are your personal agreement with the rental company, Cycling for libraries merely broker the agreement and can not be held accountable for any loss of bike or damage. Skagen Cykeludlejning will provide you with a contract via mail after receiving the final list for people wanting to hire. 10 th of August. Any variation in ways of payment will be described in the contracts if none then payment is on delivery in Oslo.<br>At pick-up in Aarhus we\u2019ll inspect the quickly for any major damages and whereafter Skagen Cykeludlejning will inform of further process.<br>The exception to this is the leaving on the 10th, for those of you who\u2019ve chosen to opt out of our fabulous optional day, we\u2019ll arrange for bike inspection on the 10th and lock up the bikes untill pick-up at the 11th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last call<br>If any of you shouldn\u2019t have signed up for rental bikes and would like to then additional registration is open untill the 10th of August. It consists of a main library and 16 other branches. Not just a collection of equipment, these spaces were an integrated environment where professional machines, assistance, and guidance were gathered under a single roof. The project, run as a practical research laboratory, was under constant development whose objective was simple: uncover the specific production needs of Oslo\u2019s and Norway\u2019s creative population with a focus on shared multidisciplinary infrastructure and production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pilot project was closed to the public in august 2014 and we are now implementing its results. A permanent facility is under development! The Gothenburg University Library is one of the most frequented research libraries in Sweden, with 1.6 million visits per year.<br>Chalmers Library is a university research library specializing in science and technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Medical and hospital libraries<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sahlgrenska University Hospital have medical libraries at M\u00f6lndal hospital, Sahlgrenska University Hospital and \u00d6stra hospital. The libraries provide service to the hospital staff. There is also BUS, a children\u2019s library at Queen Silvias Hospital (part of \u00d6stra hospital).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting there<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By air<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The international airport Landvetter (GOT) is located 20 kilometres south-east of the city centre and you can travel from various destinations in Europa and the world. Please note that the smaller G\u00f6teborg City Airport (GSE) is no longer in use for commercial flights and will be phased out as from the winter 2015. Buses operate from Landvetter Airport to the Central Station, (Nils Ericson Terminal), in Gothenburg four times per hour. If you plan to take a taxi, make sure you get a authentic taxi G\u00f6teborg (look for the logo \u2013 a man with a cap \u2013 on the door) in order not to get ripped off. The fixed price is around 415 SEK to get from Landvetter into the city centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By bus and train<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bus station, Nils Ericson Terminalen, is next to the train station. Swebus Express operates frequent buses to most major towns and cities as well as Oslo (NO). For 100 SEK you bring your bike on board. There is also Nettbus (for Oslo and Copenhagen) but they don\u2019t allow bikes on board. The journey time is around 3,5 hours from Oslo, 6,5 hours from Stockholm, 3,5 hours from Malm\u00f6 and 5 hours from Copenhagen.<br>SJ, V\u00e4sttrafik, \u00d6resundst\u00e5ge, T\u00e5gab, NSB and Bl\u00e5 t\u00e5get are running frequent services to and from the central station in Gothenburg, connecting the city with the Scandinavian capitals Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen. No bikes (except folding bikes) allowed on SJ. Aarhus has also recently been named European Capital of Culture 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting there<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By air<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several airports in the Aarhus vincinity. Aarhus airport, also known as Tirstrup airport, is 45km northeast of the city. Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has daily flights to\/from Copenhagen International Airport (flying time 35 minutes); Sun-Air (affiliated with British Airways) operates direct connections to Stockholm, Gothenburg and Oslo. Ryanair has daily connections to\/from London (Stansted). The bus from Tirstrup to Aarhus costs DKK 100 one way (travel time approx. 50 minutes). The final stop is the train station in the center of Aarhus<br>There is also an aiport in Billund (where you can visit Legoland as well!). The bus ride from Billund to Aarhus takes approximately 1.5 hours, and costs app. DKK 180 (one way).center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By boat<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are travelling to and from other Scandinavian countries, there are ferries to Northern Jutland (Frederikshavn, Hirtshals or Gren\u00e5). Mols Linien operates ferries to Odden and Kalundborg<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By train or bus<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>R\u00f8dbus is the cheapest transport from Copenhagen (among other cities) to Aarhus. Ticket prices around 100 kr. Abildskou operates buses from Copenhagen (Valby Station), Copenhagen Airport, Hamburg Airport and Berlin. Eurolines operates buses to and from Hamburg. All regional and long-distance buses stop at Aarhus bus station, 300m northeast of the train station.<br>All trains arrive and depart from Aarhus Hovedbaneg\u00e5rd (Aarhus H).
